99 Xplorer 300 wont stay running while in gear. HELP!!!!
#1
Hey guys, I am new to this forum.. We were out riding yesterday, my friend was on my dads 99 Xplorer 300.. About halfway through the ride, he was going through some water that was maybe up to the foot boards and it stalled.. Had to start it in neutral, and when he tried to shift it into high gear it stalled out.. Started it in gear but had the throttle pushed in a bit and it went fine.. Seemed like there was a belt slipping somewhere, but this is chain drive? Might i add that the thing idles fine while in neutral. Speaking of chains, we just got this thing back from the shop, had a brand new chain put on it.. I dont think that has anything to do with this but maybe it does? But anyway, we get it home and when you stop, the thing dies. I lifted up the rear tires, and it goes fine when in gear (high low or reverse), but once the tires hit the ground it stalls out if the RPM's arent high enough.. When you put it into gear, the RPM's go way down, and instantly the tires start to move.. To me it seems like the clutch is engaging way too low. Has anyone had this problem before?? It just started happening in the middle of the ride.. It goes fine when you are on the throttle, let off and stop, it stalls out. Please help!!

team. welcome to the forum fellow mainer. it sound like its time to pull the clucth cover off and take a look. th echain has nothing to do w/ it and yes its a belt drive clutch system. if you pull the cover off you can watch what its doing while in gear/neutral. becareful moving parts. but first thing is it idled too low by any chance?? turn up the idle any some and it should stay running. if you do this and when you put it in to gear and it starts to crep foward then theres something wrong w/ the clutches or belt.
