Tire Upgrade Recommendations for '00 SP500
#1
Hey Guys,
I think it's time to upgrade tires on my bike - 2000 SP500 (carb'd, non-HO). I currently have the OEM Goodyear Tracker P's 25x8x12s (front) & 25x11x10s (back) on stock rims. I was thinking about moving to the ITP Mudlite XTR's on SS rims... and, of course, the question is what size rims and tires should I go with?.?. It seems that everyone likes the 27" XTRs on the 14" rims, but I'm concerned about losing acceleration/power due to the larger circumference and weight. If I had an 800cc, I'd be less worried - but my 500 is already a little slower than a few of my buddies 'big bores', so it's a concern.
Would you go with the 25"s (oem size)?
Would you go with the 27"s (the popular choice it seems!)?
Would you go with the 26"s (compromise)?
Goodyear lists the weights of their Tracker P's as 14 & 35lbs.
The 25" XTR's would be 23 & 28 lbs respectively.
The 27" XTR's would be 27 & 33 lbs respectively.
I'd guess the SS rims will be a lil lighter than the OEM steel I have now, so that will offset a pound or two.
OR, should I just stick with the old fashioned Mudlites - 25"s would be 20 & 23 lbs?
What would you go with and why??? (Mostly wooded flat-land trail riding; occasional mud and water; mountain riding once a year).

yea my self personally i dont like the 14" rims. i like the 12" type 7 like in my pics and i would go w/ 26" instead of 27" and it wont be too bad. im running 26" tires on our sp 450 and it does good.
