bought 2006 hawkeye, disappointed
#21
We picked up the Hawkeye last night from the dealer. So We took out our Sportsman and my Hawkeye out today to get dirty. It did start better but still does not start well in the cold and by the end of the day there was gasoline floating around inside of the gas gauge. Sound right? My husband's Sportsman never has any of these issues, so now that I have my 18 month warranty, I am just taking it back to the dealer to let them figure it out.

You have to prime the intake for cold starting, trust me, I run my Sportsman all winter and run the Hawkeye occasionally in the 30's and 40's. This starting procedure should work for you:
60 degrees and above:
1. turn key on.
2. pull choke all the way out.
3. hold throttle SLIGHTLY open.
4. turn key to start.
40 to 59 degrees:
1. turn key on.
2. pull choke all the way out.
3. depress throttle fully and release 2 or 3 times.
4. hold throttle SLIGHTLY open.
5. turn key to start.
20 to 39 degrees:
1. turn key on.
2. pull choke all the way out.
3. depress throttle fully and release 4 or 5 times.
4. hold throttle SLIGHTLY open.
5. turn key to start.
0 to 19 degrees:
1. turn key on.
2. pull choke all the way out.
3. depress throttle fully and release 6 or 8 times.
4. hold throttle slightly open.
5. turn key to start.
Basically, the colder the temps, the richer the intake charge needs to be for it to fire up. Once started, regulate the idle with choke and throttle. Don't allow the engine to run with the choke for longer than is necessary to keep the engine running smoothly/ reliably. Use the throttle to maintain an idle without the choke until the engine is warmed up and will do it on it's own.

After reading your complaint you gave me a great idea. A friend of mine is having a similar dilemma with a phoenix. I have a suggestion, and feel free to repost this. Everyone on here who reads these post will benefit. What would happen if, when someone has a problem like this with a dealer, we all take the time to call and or write the dealer and ask how come they wont do the right thing and fix the problem. We could all support one another by sending emails, making phone calls, and writing the dealer who someone is having a problem with and ask what they're doing about it to fix a problem.

Now THERE'S a helpful comment. A little juvenile though.
I feel for chevellegirl's problem as I had dealer problems with a truck I had bought a few years back. Call Polaris directly, bug the living heck out of them. Push them until they either fix it, or tell you they WON'T do anything. Then THEY have the problem explaining WHY they won't honor the warranty. But again, I would call Polaris directly first.

This type of useless posting will not work on the ATV connections forum for long. You might try the spin zone though where OFC will digitally pick your bones clean.

Hey there Chevellegirl, I also live in Louisville. I am surprised you guys deal with SSPower, they have really done a lot of people wrong. I am happy to hear that they made right on your warranty, actually you are the first that I have ever heard that made out on there warranty from SS. Anyway I have a friend who has a single atv trailer that he is selling. I think it is a year old and I do believe he wants $200 for it, let me know if you are interested. By the way we are planning a ride at Hillz and Hollarz in Shelbyville in a couple of weeks if you guys are interested.

We have spoken to the dealership as well as the company. There customer service department is a joke. The man (Josh) who is the head of the customer service department was rude and unprofessional. I asked to speak to someone above him and he said that he was the top of the line. They have a three teer department and I spoke to a "two teer" person (after Josh) who refered me back to Josh. I said that I would not speak to him and wanted someone above him. The reply was that there was NOBODY above him. The company has the worst customer service department that I have ever delt with. With no one else to go to we are stuck. Our polaris was purchased 11/06 and has been in the shop 3 times for stalling out/carborator issues. We are extrememly dissatisfied!!! We have experienced that Polaris does not stand behind their product and will not be purchasing any more Polaris' nor would we recommend them!

Sorry about your problems, but working as an auto tech at dealerships forever, if you call Polaris up being rude and unprofessional, they will not help you. If you are rude and curse them, your mind is made up and nothing they do will help, so they won't. All makes have problems here and there, you can tell this by reading these forums and all of there customer relationship departments are the same as Polaris. They are not going to help if you start off rude to them. Before you call any customer relationship dept., write down your problems, and you might even write down what you are going to say. Stay calm and explain to them what has happen. Most all calls to places like this are recorded. If you where calm and collected and he was rude. I would then go to there web site and contact them there. Give them the date and time you called so they could listen for themselves. Last but not least. You can ask about your problem here and there is a good chance you will get some help as long as your attitude isn't like it is in your post on up above. And just remember, a pile of cr@p grows the best veggies.
