I have a 06' sportsman that I bought with the Polaris branded winch. Any idea who manufactures this winch? I was looking to upgrade to synthetic cable and the plastic fairlead. Anybody upgraded to the syn. cable? Happy?

 

I asked my dealer who makes that winch, they don't know, but they said parts are easier to get than Warn parts! I have synthetic rope and love it. If you change it over from steel, you need to pay attention to a few things. Check your drum and roller fairlead for any burrs, gouges, or deep scrapes. These can actually saw through that new rope as the rope is pulled across any imperfection. Oh yeah, I love it!

 

chances are if its a 06' model, then it has a warn winch. i think polaris changed in 07' models. if it has a black wrinkle type finsh then its the china made winch.

 

I bought my 800 EFI in October 06 and got a Warn winch with it. I switched to the Amsteel Blue synthetic winch rope and did not change the fairlead as my roller fairlead had not seen any use with the cable and is perfect. I had witnessed a live demonstration of the strength of synthetic rope and how it fails in comparison to cable and on that alone, I'm sold.

 

what is synthetic rope? never heard of it. advantages?

 

its a blue high strengh ploy rope. supposed to be super strong.
