my 96 sporstman primary clutch faces are getting some pretty large grooves in them from where the belt rides. Does this cause a drastic decrese in performance? I have heard it does and doesnt....can these be machined? anyone know??

no they cant be. once there grooved out they need replacing. you might go on ebay and look for one if there real bad. i wood guess(not to sure) that they will have an effect on performance, just dont know how much.

The groves will allow the belt to slip even more than it is already that will cause heat and crack the sheaves. Yes E-bay is good option.

I dont thinjk you can buy just the sheaves from polaris and a new clutch retails for about $400- $450.00. Looking into a new clutch also.

No sheaves can not be bought, clutch is balanced so just adding sheaves will not work, new is cheaper than that less than $400. Even cheaper on e-bay. Catch someone that is parting out a machine.
