Default Scrambler 4x4 big tire options? 25x13 rear 26x9 front?

My rear tires are wore down and one of the front tires has a few lugs that have ripped into the base of the rubber.

So since I need a complete set of tires.

Rear Options
TSL Vampire 1.34" tread depth, 4 ply 13" width is 13" too wide to fit stock rims? 12.50 is whats on the bike now
Maxxis Mud bug or ITP 589 both deap tread and 6 ply 12" width

Front options:
Could only find one in the 26" size - from what I've read the fronts need to be plus 1" over the rears.
TSL Vampire 1.34 tread depth 4 ply 26x9.5 Concerned about the width fitting the rim.

2004 Scrambler with airfilter, pipe, and a moddified HPD red/yellow spring. I don't ride fast or race anybody. But like to have the traction to go through mud pits without having to allways drive around. And the low 8" skid plate has an anchor effect!

Search engine wasn't working but I thought I've read of other scrammys running 25"?

I had thought of running bigger tires on my old Scrambler when I had it but without a low range I was afraid of burning belts in the deep mud. I had a very aggresive clutch kit, and I still seemed to burn belts in some extreme conditions.

Now as for the tires you are looking at, the rears will be OK, but the fronts are way to wide. You will need either rims with an offset or spacers or even both. Let us know what you end up doing. There are lots of people looking to upgrade the tires on their Scrammys. And there are some people around with Explorer trans in their Scrammys with the low range too. Good luck

I've got 23x8 on the front now. Just 3/4" clearence from the inner sidewall to the strut. So 3/4 to 1" spacers would be a must have. would rather find a better choice for front tire that is only 8" wide.

Low range gears in mud is something I don't understand. If you travel at the same speed on a trail or through mud how does the belt know its on mud? Unless your crawling threw the mud - low range is not needed. Nor does low range offer the speed to throw out the mud to clean the treads. From my Jeep days low range in mud or snow would cause too much torque and not enough speed - just spinning.

I always tried crawlin thru the mud first LOL Then blast my way from there LOL And I do a lot of slow crawlin thru the bush and rocky tight hills so a low range is very nice and that's why I have a SP now

get 12 inch rims they give you more clearance around strut and you can go with 25x8 in front and 25x12.5 in rear with out changing any thing but the sprokets this will also solve belt slipping troubles go one tooth down from stock in front and go up two in the rear stock is 36 you can get a 38 pretty easy because they were stock on the 400 sport polaris made. i did this mod and my scrambler is the envy of my riding buddies and wheelies with the best of them for an automatic you may want to do a stage one kit to give you some more lowend power but mine works great!!you will eat brake pads but its worth it

Thanks for the info. I will be getting 12" rims from an xplorer.
You say change the front sprocket - is that the the front small drive sprocket? How does changing the sprockets effect the front 4x4 system?
