450/ engine hot light.
well on a trip today the wife wasnt behind me anymore so i turned around to go back to find her(scared the hell out of me thinking the worst) to find here sitting on the trail w/ the fan running and the hot light flashing. of course first thing i checked was the rad. to see if the mud we went thru had plugged it and it was clean. so i looked at the overflow tank and level was were it was suppose to be when warm, not hot. so i layed my hand on the rad and it was luck warm. first thing i thought of was capers bike w/ the recifier /what ever modual and wonder if its starting to give false reading. restarted it and drove the 7 more miles home and never had came back on.

O.K. ....If the Thermistermcircuit is open the engine Hot light and fan will both come on. With the engine cold, Disconnect lead and measure resistance of sensor between the two Yellow/Black connectors terminals. There should be no continuity or very high resistance.
Hot light ON /Fan On.....Ohms Above 50K....Open Thimister/Replace.....
Hot light ON................Below 178.............Engine Overheat or Bad Thermister..
THERMISTER READING DURING OPERATION:
Hot Light ON......Ohms 178min---190max
Fan Off.............Ohms 296min---316max
Fan On.............Ohms 236min---251max.
The module also contains provisions for detecting an open Thermister.
An open Thermister WILL cause the fan motor to come on.
The engine Hot output provides a grounded output for the lamp......
The fan output has a liner current limit.
Hopr this helps you out a little..................................Caper..... .......

One other thing I didn't say ......You told us you checked the RAD and it was cool.....You layed your hand on the Rad and it was cool.........The Thermister is on the Engine and this is where the reading is being sent from...........Not the rad........So really the rad could be alot warmer then the reading it is getting from the motor(where the HOT LIGHT reading is sent from)..........Caper...........

450/ engine hot light.
its not the thermostat being bad or stuck closed. it was warm to the touch the same as all the hoses as the fan had been on for about 4 minutes. it acted like it was unplugged(the sensor) but it wasnt. ill have her keep an eye on it when we go again maybe next weekend or so and keep the info you gave me handy. thanks caper

O.K keep us posted........Also remember that is any part of that circuit opens(not just the sensor) wiring too,...........the fan and Hot light will come on.......So it could be a bad wire or break in the wire also...................Anyway keep a eye on it and keep us up to date...........Caper.........
