I Have a 2001 Sportsman 500 H.O. that will start right up and sit there and idle but the minute i start to give it gas it startes to pop and backfiring then when i let off the gas it will go right back down to an idle.ive tried everything i can think off and i am lost on this one. If anyone can help me out that would be great.

 

did you pull the plug and see if its running lean (white)? also it might be a bad cam w/ the lobes worn down.

 

sounds like a cam problem to me!

 

if it's fuel injected, that sounds like a bad tps

try adjusting the Etc, there is an adjustment in the throttle cable about 4 inches from the thumb throttle , adjust it till there is only 1/8 inch of slack in the cable.
