Default Transmission Whine

I have a 1999 Scrambler 400 2 stroke 4x4 and the transmission started whining the other day. I stopped and found the transmission dipstick and it was low. So, I added more fluid hoping the whining would go away. No luck. Still is whining. Any ideas on how to fix this or is it a complete rebuild of the tranny?

Is that an easy one to replace?
