Polaris 400L 2x4 engine help
#1
Ok so I have the aforementioned four wheeler I just barely bought it from some dude close buy to where I live. It wasn't running and so I had so buy a new starter for it the guy said it has been running. The four wheeler was registered only 2 months ago so it hasn't been sitting forever.
Now I have put everything back together except for the drive and driven clutches. But I am trying to get it started It kicked once but ever since then we haven't got it to kick except that once. I have spark, and the fuel will sometimes run out of the overflow tube off the bottom of the carb. then not even touch the intake to the engine. Other times it will be soaked in the intake. But the spark plug will still be dry?
Sorry for the long a post but I am at a loss here! I have worked on a lot of ATVs before but not very many 2 strokes. Any and all advice will be welcomed!! If you need pics or something I can arrange that!
Thanks, Kent Jenkins

it should be about 120-150 psi..... if its low, you can do an oil check, which means put about 1 teaspoon of oil in the spark plug hole, then retest, if the psi goes up from the first test, then the rings are shot.... if the psi stays the same, then something else is wrong....

Thanks truckermatt and stendori! I checked the compression and its not even showing up so dang. Oh well thanks again you guys If you didn't remind me I would have ripped my hair out! I found a piston kit on eBay and it even has the top end gaskets. So I think ill buy it and get my four wheeler done.

before you , i would take it to a shop to get it bored out, and then you can get a piston for the correct size they bored it too..... so you dont waste your time..... if you have 0 compression, i would recheck the tester.... you should have at least something, but then again, it could be that low...

Ok it's been a little while I got the Jug to a shop and had it bored out to .40 over, because it was already .20 over. I took a day put it all back together and this wheeler is a fast SOB! There are a few odds and ends here and there but it looks great! I will try to upload a photo to my profile tomorrow. Thanks again you guys for all your comments.
