no front drive in reverse
#1
Thinking maybe some of you guys have had this happen before.
For some reason I have no front drive in reverse, the light showing 4x4 is ingaged is coming on and it works fine in forward,
It did have some water in it and I drained it and washed it out and refilled it with polaris oil and it still does not work.
I was told by a guy that works on polaris alot that if the roller cage gets a crack in it that it will cause the 4x4 to act up.
I replaced all the bearings and seals as well as a new armature plate back about 6 weeks ago and it has work flawlessly till now.
Any ideas
Thanks

How are you checking to see if it is engageing? I know when going forward the fronts won't hook up until the rear wheels spin so much of a revolution. I think reverse works the same in you won't feel or see the front wheels engage until you need it(rears spin)
I'm not quite sure when it comes back out of 4WD, if it's when you get off the gas or if when the rears stop spinning.
Some one else my know better then me.

Yup, sounds broke.
Let us know what it turns out to be. I haven't had that come up yet.
I have had it hook up the front wheels and almost put me over the bars, my hip pushed my thumb onto the throttle and just about took the corner off the house.
The neabors probably got a kick out of that smooth bit of 4 wheeling.

I know my dad'a 04 polaris sportsman 600 and every polaris that I am aware of, will not engage the front diff. in 4wheel drive in reverse, unless you hold the yellow override button on the left handle bar. Once the button is pressed you will have the front diff locked and will turn the front wheels.

Thanks for the reply.
But this problem has just showed up since the last deep mud run we did.
As I did mention earlier, the 4 wheel drive icon in the dash does come on when the botton is pressed in reverse, it just doesen't engage the dif so the tires won't turn.
I have even tried running it in reverse and pounding on the gas with the botton pressed thinking it may need more wheel speed, but that didn't work as well.

Dang, I've got an 05 700 that is experiencing the same problem - No 4wd in reverse when pushing the override button. My display also shows that the AWD is engaged, but no dice. I discovered this last winter (which was the first with a plow). What a pain in the ..... especially with a plow on. Mine will eventually be going in for a diagnosis before next winter. Please post your findings....it would be good to know what we're gettin into.
