The 289 and 302 are the same..essentially. the 351 has a taller deck height. 351 W, that is. 289/302 are pretty much interchangeable. The sequence was 221...260...289...302

Partially correct..
302 boss block is unique. They put this engine together in the simplest terms.. Mating Clevland style heads to a windsor style block. CJ and SCJ blocks, as well as 427 blocks are different from their bretheren....but I am off topic.

I know the CJ and SCJ have four bolt mains going through the side of the block just above the oil pan. That 302 BOSS thing confuses me sometimes, depending on who's telling me what, which seems to be alot of different things. Thanks for settin' me straight!!!

Actually superduty the duramax is a 6.6 liter and the new gas big block is a 8.1 liter but the real kicker is that the duramax will out run the gas 8.1 in the 1/4 mile go figure

The 427 high risers ( which were also used as base engines for the SOHC conversions ) were the only FE series Fords to get 4 bolt main bearing caps, in "cross bolted" fashion. If memory serves me correctly.
The 351M is truly a mongrel, using a 400 deck height block, with windsor small block engine mounts and a 460 bellhousing pattern.

I think the Modified is a cleveland with 400 heads, or a 400 with Cleveland heads. My girlfriends father has one in his 79 F-150. I'll ask tommorrow. He bought a windsor intake awhile back and it fell down in between the heads. I think it also has it's own bellhousing. The 460 has one, the FE has it's own, and any small- block will bolt up too the inline-sixes bellhousing. I know that for a fact because my windsor bolted right to the C-4 that was behind a 300-6 in my 75 F-100. I had a horsepower book somewhere, "building a ford V-8" that explained all the differences between every ford V-8 ever made, but my friend borrowed it and seems to have misplaced it. If I ever get it back I'll find out what's what and let yall know for sure. I do remember they refered to the 400/cleveland as a "big small-block" though.
