Default 2004 Sportsman 500 - would not move

My nephew took my 500 for a quick ride and basically crawled back to my house on it. When I went to move it, it would barely move like the brake was on (or the belt was slipping like on my sled). I felt the plastic drive/clutch housing and it was pretty hot compared to my 700 that my other nephew was riding. I started it the next day and it was fine, took the housing off checked the belt and all looked fine. Took it for a ride for a couple of miles - low and high speed - no problem"

Anybody seen this before?

Thanks,

A thought might be to check the foot brake cylinder. Mine locked up on me and got stuck for a bit. A possibility.

one or both of the rear bearings could have seized and now is "broken" loose. Look for grease on the rear bearing carriers around the CV axle boot. Unless you have hosed it off, this is a good indication that a bearing is or has gone out. Another way is to check for drivetrain drag. Jack up the rear and put the machine in neutral (chock wheels) and try turning the rear tires.

Thanks all - I will check all that has been mentioned. I have been having problems with the brake foot petal - basically not working at all, that was my next project - maybe its tied together with this problem.

i dobt it would be the brakes as it would still be stuck on. ild ask what he was doing when it started acting up. could be a bad bearing or the buttons in the secondary maybe melted to the helix and then cooled down and released just a thought.
