CALLING ANY WINCH GURU!!
#1
hey gang, got a warn A2000 on my polaris. it came with it, so it is probably 8 years old now. it is making a weird noise when winding/unwinding. the noise is kind of hard to explain, almost a loud, whining noise. like a constant, loud pitch or a bearing running dry or something. sorry, it is difficult to describe on here.
i took the winch apart and found the noise seems to be coming from the coil inside the magnet wrap, where it turns. it sounds like the coil is turning and rubbing the magnets, causing the noise. why is it just now doing it? is there a rebuild kit or what are my options guys? i can't be the only one who this has happened to. thanks all

you would be better off to go buy a new as if you could get parts for it it would be expensive and they dont even make that model any more. you can buy an off brand that looks just like a warn for the price of trying to repair that one and would be at least a 2500 lb. thought my .02

May be just dirt/dust/mud in there .......Your can try some electrical contact cleaner first.........Then buy a new one if the trouble don't go away........NOTE: Let the cleaner dry before trying to power it!!!!..Caper..

its probably cheaper and easier to buy a new one instead of buying and replacing parts inside the winch. Another thing that i've learned is that you are not susposed to use your winch as a tie down device when in the back of your truck or trailer, the constant jerking causes the winch to wear faster, use ratchet straps, their ALOT CHEAPER than replacing a winch.

mine sounds real bad after a few river rides .. take it apart, clean the motor ( take it apart) take apart the drum and gear train, (real easy) make sure to clean it good the reassemble the gear train witha good amout or marine grease, reassemble to motor(dry) i had a bone head tell me to put grease in the brushes/ mangent area...dont!!.. it should work as good a new, if not when its apart you can see whats wrong.. if you can save it ,it saves you a few buckss... if its a warn, goe to the web site and down load the tear down directions.. or call tech support they will fax you copy, they did for me... good luck!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, i am going to completely tear it down and wipe it all clean of all grease, dirt, and gunk. then i am going to marine grease the crap out of it and see how that works. will keep you guys posted, just in case someone else has this problem later on too
