i personally dont like the new styling and the 300 hawkeye is under powered for even my wife(as she told me) w/ its extra small tires and lack of low range. it would be a great intro. model for a beginner or for some one who doesnt mind a smaller and under powered machine(again this is my opinion) then it would be fine. now the sportsman models w/ its IRS is differnt from the explorers of back along so big improvement in ride(theres that opinion again) and mostly all the sportsmans have the same bike excluding the engine size and a few pounds in weight, so the 400 sp. like my old 335 is a little on the under powered side for its weight for myself.

Default Question for Stendori

Well I agree with Stendori, The Sportsman line as we know it should be built on the same frame, have LOW range, good towing CAP. and not to cut corners!!!!

You don't see FORD calling the RANGER line-up an F-series do you!!!
Sportsman are made for Plowing, hunting,water-crossing,Towing,and are know for being BIG and Heavey!!!
That's why I bought one, People are and will be mis-lead now when people call a 300 a Sportsman!!!

Please these are just my views and no need to have replies directed back at me!!!!

Another note here.......My Sportsman 450 2006 is a 455cc engine,
...............................Now 2008 The Sportsman 400 H.O. is also a 455cc engine,
So what it is a 450 OR a 400 H.O.???????may be next year the 800 Sportsman may be called the 750 H.O.!!!!!

Default Question for Stendori

Yea, I agree with Stendori and Caper. I think the distinction between these lower
power models should be like Sport and/or Trail bike. It would so seem that Polaris singled
out the Sportsman's class as their superior Utility models. Now I have a SP450
and felt in the same class as my previous 400 and 500 cc brothers being the mid-way
450. With using the Hawkeye platform to redefine it as the Sportsman's lowest based
model it is changing its previous consistency of "same frame, suspension, tire sizes, instrumentation,
body style/size etc. etc. (Not an opinion here just the truth by my observation)

I still don't think there is nothing wrong with the Hawkeye having more power options
in a now 450 class, thats great and awesome for the Hawkeye fans. But I think the point
here is just don't call them a Sportsman (Now my humble opinion)

And to show you how objective and Polaris product fan I am, I openingly admit that these
new 400 sportsmans (hawkeyes, LOL) will smoke mine, with lighter and smaller frame base and
new mods. Agree or disagree?

And yea, maybe this thread should be entitled the "New hawkeye or Sportsman 400" something
of that nature, NOT "Question for Userx", we don't want to set a misinterpeted tones openly on
thread titles, I agree with Stendori please use the wonderful PM tool or email. (Gentle suggestion)

This is a great and FUN forum, lots to learn from and great on-line discussions on TECH
Talk and Engineering.

May God bless us All and have a great time on your next ATV ride!
