Can anyone tell me the best belt for my sp 400? Stock, Goodyear, or other?

Thanks for the advice. You've answered quite a few of my questions on this forum, and I appreciate it. I do have one more for you....my belt seemed like it was slipping on my SP 400, as well as "clicking" while backing up slowly, so I pulled the cover to have a look. The belt is worn narrower in about a four inch section. Would this cause my chatter/slipping problem? Also, when I took the belt off, I spun the secondary clutch, and I hear something rattling around inside of it. Any ideas on all of these questions would be really appreciated.

my idears are that your belt is extremly burnt and is not worth putting back on and would give you weird feelings and i bet if you pull your driven(secondary) off and pull apart you have broken buttons in side that needs replacing. sounds like you were either stuck or pulling something heavy in high and over powered the belt causing it to burn it. just a thought though.

Thanks for the input, once again! How much of a job is it to pull the driven clutch off and replace the buttons?

It's very easy to get the secondary off. Just pull the bolt out of the center and it comes off, it's not pressed on like the primary. If you have a roller secondary, and I don't think you do you'll need a tool to get it apart and back together. With a regular secondary clutch, just kneel on it and pull the snap ring off. Make sure to pay attention to which way the clutch is preloaded. I can't remember which way they are preloaded so pay attention. And then the buttons are pretty easy to change after that.

Oh and in my humble oppinion, stock belts work the best. From my expiriance dragging sleds and riding my quads stock last longer and are more consistant overall

Thanks, Todd, you too, are the man. This forum should be populated by more people like you and Stedori; you both give excellent, knowledgable advice. Thanks!

dont know what year your 400 is but i looked up the part number for the buttons.

17 BUTTON-RAMP
5436521 (replaces 5430766) 3 $3.15
you would turn the sheeve countclockwise i beleave to preload spring. as the very least while you have it apart you can clean it real good. good luck.

you could try an MBL belt-- their belt will be much more expensive, but withstand much more heat & abuse.
