Default 700 stumble off idle

Hey, I have an '04 700, starts and idles great, got great power, but while cruising, holding the throttle barely open, it has a stumble, or hesitation. Also, after a high speed run, while decelerating, it backfires, or pops through the exhaust. any ideas?

Thanks!

sounds like ur running lean, if u take apart the top of your carburetor, which it may take a pair of needlenose vise grips to get the cover off, you'll find a needle in there with a clip. there will be a bunch of adjustment slots, take the clip down a notch and see what happens

First before you make any adjustments look at your carb boot and see if it has any cracks. Also look at the donut gasket on the manifold. Most of the time its one of the two.

you have an air leak of some sort causing a lean condtion. ive read like sportsman70003 said that the intake bots are famous for cracking.

Update: The carb boot had a crack in the bottom, right near the carb end clamp. So... my choice was a new one for $78, or wrap it in electrical splicing tape. The splicing tape works great. Two layers of splicing tape, covered with super 88 electrical tape, and the clamp holding the end just in case. It runs like brand new.

Thanks!
