I have the service manual as well as the owners manual for my 2007 800 Sportsman. Both manuals say to use new sealing washers whenever you change oil or transmission or gearcase fluids. What gives?

This is my first ATV. I've had lots of motorcycles and never had to change sealing washers when changing out the various lubes. Does everyone do this on ATV's?

i have never changed any sealing washers on any of my wheelers. as long as you dont overtighten them and dissort them you can reuse the old ones.

Polaris gives me the new ones in with the oil change kit!!!!..One for the crankcase and the other for the plastic tank!!!........I put the new ones on just because I get them!!!.......The old ones would still work though!!!!!...............Caper..........

Like Stendori said........If you overtighten them they will mushroom and spread open!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info! I can understand new ones if you ruin them, I've changed a lot of oil in a lot of machines and this was a new one to me. What everyone said makes a lot more sense. Thanks again...
