Hello, I just bought this 02 magnum 4x4. I read all the threads about broken speedometers, but mine is a little different. maybe someone can help me out...


My speedometer is dead, and the odometer doesnt add up any miles as I drive.

BUT, the hour meter, and the 4wd are still working fine.

It looks as though the speedometer had been replaced because when I took it out to look at it, the sticker on the back said 7/03 for a date. Thats over a year newer than the 4 wheeler. It seems like the speedometer cant be taken apart? It looks to be a sealed unit. Is this not servicable?

Does anyone know how to test the pulse coming from the speed sensor? I just want to make sure thats not causing the problem. Is there anything else that may be causing this? Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks

 

have you checked the wiring going to the sensor? it may be the sensor itself. I've been trying to get a buddy's speedo to work on his '00 explorer 400 myself with no luck. only thing left to do on it is to replace the sensor.

 

anyone know exactly how to test the sensor?

Nevermind, I made a new speed sensor for $5 from an automotive ABS sensor.
