Default Brakes not working

Help, I pulled the calipers and stripped them down, cleaned the grime off of them. I put everything back together and the same thing happens. You have to pump the brake handle to get the fron brakes to work and then they stay closed for a period of time before slowly working themsleves back out. Replaced with fresh brake fluid and bleed the air out of the line. Any help appreciated.

it sounds like the seals in the master cylinder are shot

Is the MC the box at the top by the brake lever? Would the seals be the rubber gasket on the lid or something else?

yeah thats the master cylinder and there is an internal piston and seals that if are shot won't pick up the brake fluid and then as your trying to compress it it all leaks by. it is some times hard to get all of the air out of the lines but the way that your describing it seems like it is a shot master cylinder

Something thats hard to rebuild or is it worth it. Or jus replace the entire unit?

The master cylinder isn't cheap though.

Got lucky and found a good one on ebay, otherwise it was 150 bucks from the dealer.
