wait a minute, what universal are you talking about?? there isnt one on either side of the cv joint on the 800. it is easier to take out the whole thing to put it on a bench but you really dont have to to fix the outside one. i know it doesnt seem it but if youjerk it enough and hard enough and may use a pry bar behind it as wellit does slide off. that clip is a real pain in the a## and hold real tight. what was the site you found the manual from?

any noise your hearing isnt from the ebs. its the slap, black lash, or slop or anything else you want to go it in the transmission. if you take the bikes rear drive shaft w/ it sitting on a flat level spot w/ it off in neutral you can rock it back in forth and actually hear/see the slop in the black lash. the ebs shouldnt be making any noise. not sure what your trying to take out, but if its the cv shaft from the housing it just pops out w/ a good jerk.</end quote></div>
thanks for thought on that. messed up part is I had so much backlash at one time I changed fluid in trans and drain plug was cut into more then half plug was gone. took in for warr, only time i let others work on quad is warr work. they replaced chain said it stretched out. first time out after dealer had hands in case. blew side of trans case out. big flipping hole in trans. dealer said bearing gernaded. so 4 weeks later they had new trans in. 4 weeks is terriable first off. pick it up dealer left all trans mounts finger tight vent hose off all around sh-- job. reasons inever let people do job i could have done myself. sorry but dont take to USA motorsports in AZ.please

would it be easier to take the whole shaft out , since all i am trying to do is put a new boot on(the low part of the shaft closest to the tire)im trying to get the universal part off of the shaft so i can put my new boot on.now how do you tap the universal part off of the shaft? someone told me there i a clamp ring behind thestar part on the universal or is that the end going in to the diff? im havin troubles ive found a site that i can download the sevice manual but im on deial up and it would take me 15 days to down load thanks for the help</end quote></div>Okay, I think I know what you're trying to do. There is a snap ring that holds the CV joint onto the driveshaft that must be removed. You'll need snap ring pliers for this job. The snap ring is different than the lock ring that holds the shaft in the differential. Once you have the snap ring off, the CV joint should come off with a slight tap.
Good luck!

sten, i got the hole shaft out now , iknow its not aa universal but i dont know the name for them thing so thats what ive been refering them to hoping someone will get what im talking about.now its the low part of the shaft im trying to replace the boot on, the cv shaft has to come out of the star shaped bearing thing ( universal ) so i can get the boot on . so dos says give it a good smack , is he talkin about the lower part of the shatf whereit goes into my strut? is there another type of clip that i have to overcome , like the one that keeps the shaft in the diff?
sorry for all the rookie questions, thanks for the help

ok if u have CV off bike, cut the boot off and use parts cleaner to get rid of greese u will see a retainer clip when u clean all grease away. its a tight clip it helps to clean grease away good. your new CV boot should come with pack of new grease to put in.

ok now i know i under stand what your talking(im a little slow on catching on lol) you mean the ball bearings holder that is on the end of the spine shaft which holds the cv. if you scroll thru my pics. you'll see one of the clips there refering too that holds it on. it gives you an idear of what to look for. and no you dont just hammer that off, the clip has to be removed or sqeezed together (cant remeber which one on outside shaft) to slide the "star" off. hope this helps ya.

its hard to see the clips if you dont get the grease off, make sure you remember the race that holds the bearing ***** in, it can go on 2 ways but go into diff, 1 way, on my cat the skinnier part of the race goes into the diff,

No noises from the front end of my 800. I do have the usual amount of driveline lash/noise, though. I also have a moderate fast-paced knocking noise coming from the right side of the engine near the case, only when fully warmed up and only under 2,000 RPM. I'd be worried about it if it didn't do it since it was new, or if I had the only 800 that made this noise. I'm not the only one am I??</end quote></div>
nope, i got same noise. dont notice too much till helmets off and im riding
