Default charging system malmunction

i have a 1999 explorer that the stator and regulator keeps going bad. i have had the problem since it was new. i have taken it to several repair shops and all they do is change the stator and regulator. the last time i took it in for repar they kept it for 6 months and said they found a wire on the terminal board on the wrong connector. well, the problem is still there.

can anyone help me. i am tired of throwing money down the drain.

im no expert by no means, but it sounds like it has either a dead short making the charging work agist it self or maybe something hooked up wrong maikng it back feed juice back thru the wrong way and eating up the recifier. im surprised that they both would be bad at the same time. does it put out the correct voltage when its working? oh and welcome to the forum.

thank you,
yes, whenever it is working right the voltage is good, but it doesn't take long for it to go bad. i forgot to say yesterday that according to the elec. schematic the regulator should have 4 wires comming from it. mine is missing a brown wire, which is the ground. could that be causing the problem? i don't know if it has always been missing or was it left off from a previous maintenance repair.

yes, according to the schematic and part # on the regulator it is. i don't know if it is a manufacture screw up or what. i called the place where i bought the atv and ask him about it and he said i would have to take to him to take a look at.
