Unless go fast is what you are after the 400 Scrambler is a maintenance nightmare due to the counterbalance and the 2stroke.Granted they are a blast to ride but the up keep is more than a 4stroke.Plus they can be very dangerous for a novice rider. The 400s are very fast and can get away from you in a hurry. ask my wife we sold our old 400 that I loved to get her a 330 Trailboss that fits her style more and is very user friendly.Check into the new Trailblazer and if that isnt what you are looking for try a 500 Scrambler if you need the 4x4.</end quote></div>
why would it need more maintainance than a 4 stroke? 2 strokes are almost always less maintainance than a 4 stroke...... you just have to do a complete engine rebuild more often.
why would the counterbalancer make it a maintainance nightmare?
our old Xplorer 400 (same engine as scrambler 400 and tb400) didnt require much maintainance at all- just new sparkplugs and tranny oil change once in a while, chain adjustments

I like the idea of the 330 motor in the Scrammy/Blazer frame. Had contemplated putting the old 325 Boss motor in the wife Blazer frame when it was due for a rebuild. Guess they read my mind.
Sure would like to see them go with front double a-arms though.

I had 2003 yamaha warrior 350 at one time than i sold it and got the sportsmen. the sportsmen is a good quad. but it a big quad. which depending on the trail i'm riding on can be good or bad. good because the it has a nice ride and is really tough. bad because when your on a trail with sport quads and dirt bikes they tail gate you because your going slower than them. the thing is sportsmen is not a sport quad or a dirt bike soo it doesnt handle or take off like one. but i could be wrong about that.

On a 2stroke you do have to maintain it more vigorously such as make sure the air filter is real clean all the time.(that is one of the main reasons for topends going bad)The counterbalance is the most neglected thing on a 400 and when it goes bad you are looking at big$$$$.Not to mention that you have to rejet for temp changes to keep them running right.Dont get me wrong I love the 400s and have had my share of them. They just need more care than the 500s.
