Plowing

Well I went out and bought meself a Glacier2 plow today. I got a 56" two way blade and the mount and harness. Got the harness put together, but I'm gonna wait till the snow flys before I put the frame on my bike. I would hate to lose and inch of clearance when the best time to ride is in the fall before the snow flys, and I wouldn't want to smash it over the rocks on my first trip out.
I also ordered the cable to adjust the angle of the plow on the fly. Does anyone have one of these?? I think it'll just unlatch the plow, not turn it for me but I'm not sure. If anyone has one of these please let me know. I'm not really that lazy, but when I drive into my shed it's a pretty tight fit and the blade will have to be angled to get in and then straight into the wall to close the door.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but bring on the snow LOL

I plan on getting a plow for my 800 this year too. Not sure which one or which size to get yet. It's alot of money for the 3 or 4 times a year it snows in Chicago but what the heck. My plow guy can't make the circle area of my driveway which is where the walkway is to our house. I always end up out there with the shovel so people can get to the door. I guess that's justification alone for dropping coin on the plow.

how much did that set you back if you don't mind me asking...........If you do mind just tell me none of my .............you know what...............
I was looking into the snowblower hook-up for the front with the support wheels to carry the weight..................and run off it's own engine.............They are around 2200.00 .......Seen on on the Autotrader.ca for about 1700.00 with motor................
People at work plow with there quads and told me to keep using my walk behind blower..........They said it's hard on the quads and you need to start early pushing the snow back to have the room to push it late in the season................I guess it is up to the rider as to how hard the want to plow and ram them into the banks................Caper..........

I never had to do any ramming with my Moose plow, and I did over 250 inches last winter. All you have to do is keep "stacking" the snow until it's as high as you can get it. The more snow you get, the more space you need to store it. All you need to do to "stack" snow is to lift the plow blade as you approach the bank so you ramp it up the bank. I stacked snow higher than the ATV last year, used LOW gear every time all the time, and haven't noticed any wear on the ATV from plowing.
Here is a link to a page that shows some pics of the beginning of last winter and plowing with the 500.

I always wondered about plowing with the quad as to how much snow you can move with it. I would think, with full traction all the way that the bike can move almost the combined weight of itself and the driver. That would make it give or take a half ton for the big bikes. That's alot of snow unless it is super wet. I like the idea of the attachable snowblower cuz then you could really launch it back away from the drive.

CAPER It cost me $775 taxes in. They were going to put it together for me for free, but I needed something to do last night with the rain coming down. It would've been a little cheaper if I went with a smaller blade, but I wanted to make sure it was still wider than the bike with the blade angled and a 48" or 50" would've been to narrow. I thought about a blower setup, but I hate blowing snow. It doesn't seem to matter what way the wind is blowing, you always wear it LOL And it's a lot more money

My first shot at plowing snow was with a 2x4 Honda Rancher. Even with tire chains, it was very frustrating as I would routinely get stuck and not be able to back up. Now with AWD, I rarely get stuck, maybe once or twice a season (over 250 inches of snow). And when I do, its my own fault.

I dont ram the banks when i plow, actually when the bank starts to get higher as the season progresses i start to make the pile into a ramp, and i will push the snow up the bank like a ramp and let it fall down the other side, you would have to see my driveway to understand if you cant picture it, works really good and never run out of room, yes and i made a mistake when i bought my plow, should of went bigger, I plow with a 400i cat 5 spd
