Filter mod question for TBlazer

I have a 2000 TB and will be adding an HPD pipe and clutch kit soon(thanks to input from this forum). The pipe comes with the required jets.

My question is what filter mod would be best with this (K&N, Uni or ?) Would it be better changing the filter element only or getting a mod kit that eliminates or modifies the box be better (power wise)? I ride in florida so it is mostly real dry and dusty (unless your leading the trail) and never go through water deeper than 6 in.

Will the jetting modification for the pipe be adaquate for the filter mod too?

The best way to go with your mods. and the conditions you ride in is a K&N clamp on filter that eliminates the airbox.
Make sure you measure the circumference of the carb. before you buy one.
And remember since your getting more air flowing through the carb. rejet.
Also get an outerware to protect the filter from excessive dust.

I checked K&N's website and they list only one filter for the TBlazer, PL-1001. Is this a clamp-on or a replacement in the original airbox

Has anyone put one on and if so where do you get "outerware" to protect it if it's a clamp-on type. I checked Uni's website and they list a NU8501ST as the TBlazer filter but don't indicate if it replaces the original in the airbox. Local bike shops in my area don't seem to know too much either.

They both carry filters that are sold by size instead of application. You just have to know how big the ourside of your carb intake is and how much room you have. Seems like the bigger you could go the better as far as air flow and filtering surface.

I ordered my clamp-on K&N right from www.hotseatperformance.com. Its a universal for the 250, and has a slighty angled neck. I even gotta water-resistent yellow outerwear for it. I'm working on fitting a big piece of PVC pipe over it to kinda act as a splash guard for them high speed mud puddles

Thanks for the replies.

The more I look into this the more I hear of the paper vs. foam argument. I seem to hear that the Uni and Twin Air filters have better filtering than the K&N and are used in the original airbox. Considering the dusty conditions I ride in this may be the better way to go.

Since I'll be adding the Pipe and clutch mod I don't think it would be much diffence in using the clamp on K&N as opossed to the drop in Twin Air or Uni.

Don't you think?

best place to buy the k@n type filters, the round one to clamp to the carb,is at your local go-kart shop.best choice for pre-filters is foam for humid days ,nylon outerwears for dry weather.use plenty of oil on both.
