Just pulled the secondary clutch...one of the black (rubber?) buttons is broken and floating around inside. sounds as if this is my problem.?. It may be getting in the way of the spring/clutch operating 100%.????
Do I need to put the secondary in vise before pulling the retaining ring due to the pressure of the spring?

I lay them on a piece of carpet and smack the helix with a dead blow hammer a time or two then take the snap ring out.this clutch doesnt have so much up/down tension as it it wound with spring tension like a clock spring. You will get it apart ok but you will need a second set of hands to preload the tension 1/3 turn and line thte splines up when you put it back together.

Is there a difference with the secondary clutches on newer and older polaris machines. I read somewhere the older ones had ramps that rode against each other and the newew ones (team) have buttons that ride on ramps. I just rebuilt mine and it had rollers/buttons and I didn't have to preload it.

THe newer TEAM roller clutches are dif.But all the others will interchange.
The roller clutch is THE way to go.Gives instant response.

Just like to say a huge thanks to everyone that provided suggestions! The problem is...all three buttons in the secondary clutch are busted and were preventing the secondary from fully opening up. Parts ordered and waiting! Once again, thanks to all!
