Default 87 Cyclone... Restore? Or MOD!?

I'm new here, this seemed like the best place for info I could find about cyclones. Let me explain my... "situation". I have a GSXR750 engine I want to put in a quad. I'm not a rich guy, I don't have $1500+++ dollars for a rolling 250r, Banshee, or Quadzilla. I've been shopping around for a somewhat "cool" Quad, with either a blown, or no engine that I can afford. Plus, there aren't many quads along those lines I'm looking for around here, pickings are slim.

Turns out my Boss has an 87 Cyclone. I think they look pretty cool if done up right. I can pick it up for next to nothing, but it needs a couple things... Apparently the gas tank has "rotted" through on the sides, and will need to be replaced. Also the carb needs to be gone through. Supposedly that's it. I haven't seen it yet, I will next week after he gets back from hunting...

So, naturally I came home do to research about Cyclones. I didn't know they were so rare. Supposedly only made for one year, and only around 1000 produced...

My first thought before I did the research was to stuff the GSXR engine in it, put some modern suspension on it (a-arms, modern "structurally sound" swing arm), maybe even try to put different plastics on it, like off a Predator or something.

After finding out how "rare" they are, I'm not sure if I want to hack it up. But it seems they aren't really "worth" anything. The seem more like just something someone would want to have in their collection.

I'd appreciate your opinions on this. Thanks!
