Outlaw 525 Backfire
#1
My son just got a 08 525 outlaw and his friend a 07. They both backfire a little on decelleration. Is this normal for the KTM? I also see a lot of bantering about which quads are faster than the outlaw. From what I've seen, and we also ride with Banshee's, is that no matter how much power the banshee has it is constantly getting stuck and high centered. We do a lot of trail riding in the mountains with a lot of varying terrain. Quote my son after he climbed a very steep hill with large ruts " If I would have closed my eye's I would have swore I was on flat ground it was so smooth".

Like Bill said the KTM powered Outlaw's are coming out lean from the factory to meet EPA regulations. I highly suggest the JD Jet kit. You will be shocked at the performance gains. The stock main jet is a 148. Most with the Outlaw 525 owners are finding a main jet size of around a 165-172 with the red needle works well.

I have the 07 Outlaw and have a couple of backfires per outing and cannot agree more with the suspension smoothness of the outlaw!! the strange thing is I was thinking of waiting to get the solid rear axle model, glad I didn't most of my time has been on trails and getting high centered has not been and issue unlike my compadre's that have the straight axle with little to no ground clearance! Last but not least the dam huge quad jumps like a dream! PS my brother has a KTM dirt bike and drove my 525 and basically stated it is a quadrabike!

No. The JD jetting is just that, a jetting kit. It comes with new Needles and a few jets. The performance gains are in the shape of the needles. I have a kit installed in my WR426 and it makes a huge difference.
The Dial-a-jet is some tubes what not that help compensate for altitude changes.
Get both and you will have a great setup
