Default Straighten Me Out - Need accurate info

Several companies are getting ready to do the R & D, but that could be a while. Camoplast has been really good with info so I told them I was going to buy a track kit and build my own brackets and kit. They said the gearing I would need for the 300cc engine would be about the same as for the 06 Sportsman 400. Apparently they use 15 teeth sprockets in the rear and 16 teeth in the front so that the AWD thinks the back tires are spinning and locks the fronts so the AWD is on all of the time unless you switch manually.

I would recommend Camoplast (Tatou) to deal with because of the way they treated me and supplied Info.</end quote></div>

There is no such thing as a 2006 Sportsman 400.............You must mean the 2006 Sportsman 450?..........Caper...........

That'd be a 450. It still bugs me that Polaris didn't label it a 450, or 455 if they didn't want to confuse it with an original style Sportsman 450.

I wish trailbound was right because then I wouldn't have to fabricate my own stuff.
What ever the 06 400 should be called, that was the closest to the one I need. There is another forum that a lot of members run tracks but it has been hard get some info from them. Too bad, when we all learn, we all gain.

I enjoy this forum as it appears most members have their testosterone under control. Good input is available rather than playing "mine is bigger than yours"

Thanks guys

This is a typo error.............It must be a 2005 Sportsman 400....................In 2006 there was a Yellow and Black .....but no Red model (as listed colors on bottom).......Also lists the engine as 425cc.........2006 it was 455cc in the Sportsman 450..........

i wonder where that site came from because there ws never a 06' 400(as caper stated) and they sure didnt come w/ pxt tires and a few other problems w/ that run down. they only made the 450 for 06 and 07' and now is called a sp 400(hawkeye bike) w/ the same 455 cc engine in the 450 model, but its 117 lbs lighter.

Don't know for sure, but different accessory mfg's list it as
2006 Polaris Sportsman 400 & 500. All the track suppliers at least.

The quad in the link is RED in color.............And listed as the 2006 Sportsman 400

This quad can't even be a 2006 Sportsman 450 ..........They didn't make the in RED

Colors for the 2006 SP 450 were......Green/black...Blue/Black.....Yellow/Black.....

2006 Sportsman 500 H.O...........came in RED................Caper....

Anyway it's a full-size Sportsamn frame they are showing for there track kits!!!.....

Don't know about the mid-size frame........never heard of tracks for them yet........

I think a 500 H.O. would be the bare Min. cc for tracks....They add alot of weight!!!
...........Caper.........

I quoted the yr. and model from the CamoPlast rep and the Gamma Parts Catalogue. They group the 2005/06 Sportsman 400/500 as using the same track kit. As long as the gearing is what the rep recommended, 15 teeth Rears and 16 teeth fronts, thats all I care about as I have to fab the brackets. If they are wrong about the model designation and year, oh well.

When I asked about a kit for the 300CC Hawkeye, I told them I was prepared to get a bigger ATV if the eng. was too small. They said they have been running on the smaller engines for about 10 yrs.

The 300CC engine may or may not pose a problem but apparently they run kits on the 300 engines with A/Cat, Honda, Kawasaki, & I think Suzuki. The different track mfg's are watching the sales on the mid sized frames to determine the market. Top speed is not a factor with this project. Need it to climb and handle.
