2006 Polaris Hawkeye Rebuild
#11
The starter spinning freely was due to the battery being low. That was solved by putting another battery on. It fires right up everytime I turn the key now. It will sit and idle until I try to give it gas, and then it will just bog down, and cut off. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I thought it might have had something to do with the ETC in the throttle, but it was doing the same thing when I operated the throttle at the carb. It seems like it backfires through the carb when I give it gas. It keeps seeming like timing to me, but everything is perfect on that, unles there is something I'm missing. 00XJ, if there is anyway that you can post up the pages from the manual explaining how to install the cam and how to get the timing all lined up. It helps me to see pictures of things, and I've rebuilt it without a single picture.
I'm pretty much stumped... I don't know what could be causing this.

i doubt jetting would do it for sure. you should have about 1/8" play in the throttle for the etc to work right. if its back firing thru the carb it does sound like a firing problem to me as well.

That's what I thought, but I've checked the timing atleast 5 times on this thing, and it seems like it's right. I followed 00XJ's information from the manual, and put it all back together. It runs perfect when idleing, but right when I give it gas, that's what that problem starts. I'd like to have pictures to double check and make sure I have it right...

What's the compression on these things? Should it be fairly easy to turn the motor over when the spark plug is installed. I can turn the motor over pretty easily when the spark plug is still installed in the cylinder. Could this be a compression issue?

Ok, I've checked just about everything there is to check on this thing. I've narrowed it down to maybe a carb issue. It seems like it's flooding itself when I give it gas. I've checked the valves, and they're right on, so I haven't tried adjusting them yet. I doubt that will help the problem anyhow. Here's a video that I took of how it's running. This is the only way that I can give you guys a better idea of what it's doing and how it sounds. The video turned out pretty crappy, but if you turn your speakers up, you will get the idea. PLEASE.. someone help.

I think whatever problems you are having go back to this symptom.

It appears from your video that you don't have the rear fenders/airbox installed, that is most likely your problem as the carb is not set up to run this way. Put it back together with the filter and lid on and see what happens, it has to be way too lean like it is now.
