Default EBS Question

I'm considering buying an 07 Sportsman 500 EFI with EBS. Is EBS worth considering, reliable, etc? Any pros and cons appreciated.
Thanks,
442Man

Default EBS Question

Some like it and consider it pretty much a "must have". They now have ADC (Active Decent Control) which I guess is supposed to be an improvement.
Myself, I would prefer not to have it. It causes alot of extra rattling in the drivetrain especially at its kick in speed which is about 15. It kinda becomes a PIA when trying to ride at that speed. I would rather be in control of my decel.

Default EBS Question

I've got an '07 500 Sportsman with ADC and I've found it very useful twice, but I doubt I'd be here to talk about it if I didn't have it on those two hills.

ADC works with the EBS by including the front wheels in the braking with the engine.

Just having EBS will be fine if you don't go down any steep hills. If you do go down a steep hill without ADC polaris' tend to lock up the back wheels and slide which can usually be pretty dangerous or at least increase the "pucker factor".

Using a machine with a good decent control (Can-am or Polaris w/ADC) really improves control on the long downhills.

If you don't want it to engage, just click out of AWD and run in 2WD. For the ADC to work, you need to be <15 mph and in AWD and off the gas.

To get the most out of the system, you should be in low gear. Most of the time going down hills I need to use the gas because you go too slow (this is not a bad thing).

Default EBS Question

I have a 500 with ebs and I think it's good and bad! The bad is that it is a little noisy when accelerating and alot noisy when decelerating quickly. The good is when you have a load on a hill it will assist you in stopping. If you are not used to it on steep grades it can put your *** up on the gas tank.lol I have driven most of all the others and I don't think I'd trade it for anything but a new sportsman{maybe a few more ccs} I have seen too many of the others left as obstacles in the trail when trying to follow the sportsman! That is how my user name came to be " Follow @own risk!".Sorry to all you phanatics but where I ride the bikes do the talking!

Default EBS Question

I have EBS on my 06 800 and I hate it. I will be converting mine to a non EBS soon. I have had more close calls with it kicking in at the wrong time. One time comming down the ramps on my trailer I let off the gas the wheels slid side ways, lucky I was close enough to the ground it didn't roll. When riding the flat land trail it is a bit_h every time you let off the gas you get the whip lash effect. When I ride the Srcamy 500 I don't have the same issues.

Default EBS Question

I have an 06 Hawkeye. It makes a metal clattering noise sometimes, mainly when decelerating. You don't have to be going downhill, and it is much more noticable when listening from the back (someone else riding, of course). It seems to do it when accellerating sometimes as well. I don't recall ever hearing it for the first 15 or so hours. Could this be the EBS system, and is it normal?

Default EBS Question

Yea, I first noticed my ADC engagement while loading and
unloading my quad. Kinda weird at first when I was rolling
back down my ramps while unloading,

Before - a sudden swoosh affect when I released the brake
Now - It like almost does it methodically, with a slow downward
roll affect. You have to exp. it first hand for yourself a little hard to
describe, as I use to be there reading posts like these, its the exp. of
doing it.

Bottom line, I do feel safer!

my wifes 450 didnt have it, but 800 did and when she drove mine she noiced a huge differnce so she really wanted the ebs on hers. also it saves on wear and tear on your brakes from not having to use them as much.

Default EBS Question

I though my dads 97 Sportsman 500 was the last year of having no EBS.
