<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: ncriderforks

Does the engine turn over or does the machine act as if it has no battery on it? When it shuts down can you still try to start it or does noting happen when you turn the key?</end quote></div>

When it dies it dies. The gauge lpod won't turn on, can't start it with the pull cord (but will turn over with the pull cord but nothing from the electric start), nothing. At least for a while, then once the gauges light up when you turn the key then it starts up perfectly.

As for the kill switch being a possible problem area, what's the best way to check that?

Here is something to think about... Notice near the battery there is a box the Positive battery wire connects to, wiggle this and/or check for breaks and corrosion. My atv did the EXACT same thing as your father in laws

Seems to me that if youy are losing all power and it won't pull start then it could be a CDI problem. It could be the SURE box. Or you could see if you can find the black wire on the CDI and unhook it and see if it brings it back to life. The Black wore is the main kill wire for all componets. This will eliminate a kill switch problem but it s most likely the sure box. the rcall is out there so call your dealer.

Yes it's the ECM..........I went through the same problem....My was shutting off the quad when I turn the headlights on!!.......

Polaris STILL never really did fix this problem since there last re-call in 2004 !!!!......Caper............

There are two circuit breakers in there (Sure Pwoer Module)that will shut the motor off if any trouble is present!!!!...............Hope that helps...........

I forgot............When your turning the key right off.............This will reset the breakers ...until the trip again................That why you POD is not lit up when the motor stops..........That why you need to turn the key switch off......Before trying to start it again!!!............Caper.........
