I've never had a problem with snow blocking the rad off completley. Usually a bit gets stuck in the bottom but most of the rad is up higher. My Jamhard does help keep some of the snow out.

Simple but serious question... Is your fan operating? Make sure the melted snow/ice (water) does not freeze in the fan

Yes the fan was running almost all of the time. Stock mix on coolant. less than 20 hrs on the 800 and 50 hrs on the 500. Same problem with both machines. Ice froze up at night so but no air flow thru rad. dont want to mod my machine to make it work. Thinking about selling out for a different make. Will try again this weekend to see if same result.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Ice froze up at night so but no air flow through rad</end quote></div> So your front rad screen had a sheet of ice or slush on it? I would just give it a rap with a stick or something and knock it off before riding. Ice on the actual rad would not matter because it would melt right off and help keep the coolant cool until then.

it covers the opening on the bottom on the rad. some what. nothing will completely keep any think out. im suprised that the hot rad. did not melt the snow and ice out if its actually in the rad. it self. doesnt have any mud blocking it in back as well as front does it restricking the air flow even more?

you sure there is no mud/dirt in the radiator? this along with air flow blockage will cause overheating real quick.

My view here is that if it's that cold out for snow and ice(I do live in Canada and get below -30 Deg C
So the rad would still cool in my view even with the front screen blocked..........The fan would still suck in cool enough air from under the quad..............I would check first to see if the fan is turning...Then I would check to see if the Back of the rad is PLUGGED!!!!......That's is where they do plug!!.

The fan when running will draw air through the rad so you can put a tissue paper on the plastic screen to see if it stays there when the fan is running........This will tell you if the fan is sucking air through the rad to the front screen!!!..........I really can't see how the plastic screen will cause the rad to over heat if it's cold enough for snow and ice on the ground........Where are you now to have snow and ice?......Western Canada?.........
