Well that is a nice theory but when the engine is overheated and the coolant is sludgy you tell me which came first, the chicken or the egg.

But to clarify, niether of my cars have ever been overheated and one is a gtp driven hard too so Hmmm?

It just doesnt go bad for no reason?!

That's pretty funny.
Weather you believe that high temps cause the Dex-cool to coagulate like GM would like you to beleive or the thickened coolant causes the high temps,(common sense) GM has been sued, is on-going and the case is there for all to see.

So some genius young chemist formulates a coolant that breaks down or fails when a motor is overheated. Hoses failing, water pumps failing, cooling fans failing etc. etc. can all cause overheating, but rather than fixing it and moving on, now the coolant has hardened up an deposited all through the heads, block, heater core etc. forever causing more heating issues.

Great product, give me more of that! Run what you want, I'll run something else.

If you hate it so much and your first engine blew up because of it,why would you NOT spend 50 bucks to replace it with regular green shyt and problem solved?
besides I am no defender of GM,I have a Grand Prix and I am on tranny # 4000 already, but I realize that modding my car and towing with it plus a lead foot...
40 million cars running on it...chances are poor maintenance had a big effect on it
now thats common sense

I never had an engine blow up, (re-read my posts) and you should replace Dex-cool with silicate free orange stuff, never green!

I was lucky and found out about it before anything failed but a water pump.
I too have a modified GTP, mine has 171K on it now and the orig. everything. The coolant went to goo in my daughters' GT at 110k miles too. GM suggests you run Dex-cool 150k miles so maintenance it NOT the problem these people are fighting.
GTPUSA,
You obviously have good taste in your toys and cars since you are on the Polaris forum AND drive a supercharged Pontiac

So let's agree to disagree on wether Dex-cool is a good replacement coolant for our quads.

What model quad(s) do you ride??

Default Can I use GM Dex-Cool ?

I wouldn't trust any brand or color of anti freeze alone in any vehicle i have , i had the waterpump replaced about 9 yrs. ago and back flushed ever bit coolant from every part of my 1987 Chevy S10 pickup 2.8 liter V6 EFI with one of those prestone flush kit's ; and was talked into trying the Searria non toxic coolant ! And i took the radiator to repair shop to have it reconditioned before adding the coolant in the radiator, Less that a week later i noticed the coolant jug was low ; and when i took the radiator cap off it was almost completely stopped up again !
I has to back flush the system again and i had remembered an ad on TNN MotorSports were a professioner technition put a product called Radiator Restore into a $150,000.00 classic Street machine !

This tech said he used it in all his own vehicle's , and wouldn't trust any brand of anti freeze alone to protect the cooling system ; my Radiator was still corroaded after the back flush !
So when i went to Auto Zone i found the Radiator Restore on the shelve , i bought a can and a gallon of Zerox refilled the Radiator ; a few days later the coolant jug was low again !
But this time when i removed the cap i could see that the inside of the Radiator was clean , i topped on the Rad and filled the coolant jug to the max mark ; and i haven't had to change the coolant since ! The Radiator Restore has a lubricant in it to keep cooling system clean , it's been over 9 yrs. and i only had to add coolant when i changed the thermastadt last yr. !

But that's automotive coolant and since i don't and never have owned an atv that was water cooled , i know alot of people like their liquid cooled engine's ; but to me it's just more part's to replace somewhere down thw road ! As for me a oil cooler with a fan is as far as i want to get to an automotive type cooling system ," hey " but that's just me ! But if i did own a liquid cooled atv i would use whatever my dealer told me to use ! ................

Comming from many years in the automotive industry myself. I will add my .02 cents... DexCool in Gm vehicles is ok, but in aftermarket, a no-no !! It will eat and corrode aluminum that is not designed to handle it!! I have seen intakes on performance engines that ran it and they had to be replaced. It will also attack gaskets that aren't designed to for use with it... But that is just my .02....choice is yours ....

The BEST thing to do is to replace your green coolant with GREEN coolant just like it came with from the factory. If it ain't broke why fix it? The old green stuff works great as long as you change it every three years and it doesn't cause the problems that the new stuff can cause. I personally wish they had never invented the new stuff.

Doh!

I never really look at the signatures!
Nice quad. How do you like the larger rr tires?
Did you notice a difference in performance?
I have an 07 that is really the same quad.
