Yet Another Newb Question to the scrambler Pro's
#1
Alright, I recieved my new parts for my LH strut housing on my Scrambler 400(1998 model) 4x4. But for some reason they sent me all cupped bearings, dont get me wrong the 2 inner bearings on the strut are cupped but the 2 outer ones are just flat roller conned shapped bearing. I put them all on anyways to see if it would work and i tightened it all up to see if it would have some play in it if i put my hand on top and bottum of the tire and wiggled it. Seemed fine but i have not even taken it out to test it cause id figure i better ask around first. Reason why i went ahead and put them all on is cause when i checked all the websites i noticed that none of them sell the bearings for the outer part of the hub they just sell the roller cupped ones. So i wondered to myself if they just said that there was no dif and just made them all the same.... can anyone answer this question and let me know if i need to get the 2 dif ones on the outer hub? i dont mind getting the others too just gives me a reason to get new bearings for the RH side now

The two outer bearings should be tapered roller bearings. I think you have the wrong parts.
98 500 Scrambler
inner bearings 3554509
outer bearings 3554506
cones(all 4) 3554507
98 scramble 400
same as 500

o.k. I'm looking at the schematics for my scrambler and i cant tell a difference on the bearings. Both of them are discribed as roller, tapperd, bearing. So wth is the 2 outside ones called. I took the RH strut apart and followed the way it was put together and only thing that was dif was the outer 2 bearings were dif then the inner bearings. I couldnt even follow the schematics on the websites nothing even looks close to what i have. either most of the parts are already built in the hub and strut or im missing bout 80% of everything. wtf just make something for dummies lol

All 4 cones are the same thing. The only difference in the inner and outer bearings is the inner bearings have a larger inside diameter.
Any chance someone it the past removed the 4wd clutch assy and parts, due to a failure and tried to just keep the wheel on and use it as a 2wd(seen it happen before)
Any chance of getting pics of everything that came out of the hub, and a pic of the strut, and awd coil face?

well the 4wd worked before my LH strut messed up, i know the strut came with built in parts and the hub came with built in parts. but when i look at the schematics i just cant tell whats missing and whats there but i just cant see it. ill try to get some pics of it this weekend. I'm bout to the point where im just going to say screw it and take it to the shop and have them show me how to put it on.
