Is it backfiring through the carb? Did this start all of a sudden or gradualy get to this point. If it pops through the carb it could be the exhaust lobe on the cam is gone. It could also need a carb rebuild if it's running rich, the popping may be from a fouled plug. Any more info you can give us?

I would replace the spark plug and have the carb gone through. Sounds like youre running rich and fouled a plug to me.
Check and see if there is a bracket holding the rear of the carburetor that bolts to the frame. There should be a bracket that is screwed to the carb and then goes to the frame and is secured there with what looks like tiny motor mounts. A rubber dampner with a stud threaded into the frame and the other goes through the carb bracket and is held on with washers and nuts. What year is your machine?
