Default gun rack

i see at bass pro shops and ebay shotgun racks that are basically plastic U's or V's that have a elastic thing holding the gun down...

how are these?

what is my best bet for carrying a shotgun on my 2007 sportsman 500.

thanks
erick

I used the Kolpin or it might of been the Mad Dog gun grips that mount with U-Bolts
to your racks. May present a challenge with our composite racks.
I used it to carry my 30-6 rifle. I must say it was solid but my pine trees
on our hunting property made my way tight always concerning me of brushing my gun,
as I don't like that. I took them off after the hunting season, and bagged them
and now can't find'em, doesn't matter now anyways.
That is when I had my AC for about 5 months and then traded in at my Polaris dealer
for my 450. Long story here short, I bought the Lock&Ride Gun scabbard and it fits
my rifles with scope perfectly and snug.

Pros and when it down poured in rain and it did, My gun was kept dry. Protection good while
riding from weather, debris, brush, etc. Some Cons, "OMGosh there is that deer", stop, pull
off the rear cap pin, pull off lid, pull up gun, and attempt to put the rifle scope on the
deer all awhile, "Hey where is that deer?"

Sportsmansguide.com carries those V or U type gun grip mounts that attach to the handle bars Vs.
front or rear rack. Pretty cool, I think that is the best for reachability, just a tid bit for ya!

Cheers,

Hey Shorse, as you can imagine,
you fit the barrel down on one end
#1 V and the other V, scope up
supporting from a few inches from
the end of the barrel up to the trigger
assembly, the stock will hang off
a few several inches too, so space
them out accordingly to the length
of your rifle.

As the gun fits down the Rubber V grips, it gets
tighter pushing thru its rubber fins.
Then you stretch the rubber band
clasp tight over the gun from each end
of the V's on both sides of the gun grips.

Make sense? Seriously its really snug
and secure. That rubber support band is
more like a quick release tie down you pull
out to pop one end off and you can
pull your gun up without pulling off
the whole band.

as long as it is snug, and wont fall out going around a turn or something, it is probably the thing for me...

i think bass pro shops has some in stock, i'll pick some up before hunting season..

thanks!

I took a stock rifle mount that would normally attach to any rack and made a special mount to attach to the bungy rails of the front storage box. The mounts can be obtained from any sporting goods store such as Cabelas for around 35 bucks. This setup works really well for me as there is always a rifle along for varmint control here on the ranch.
I posted some pictures that can be looked at showing the mount when they are approved.

Yea, I don't even think I paid as much
as $35 for those V gun grips. But if you
buy the Polaris Gun Scabbard you will
pay over $100 for sure but that includes
the Gun boot and its Lock and Ride
accessory mount that fastens to your
rack and foot well that houses the gun
boot.

Nice black powder rifle H!

Did you drill holes in your cargo box lid
to mount those gun grips?
