Default Warn Winch Back Spools

Hi all, I have a 2000 lb warn winch and it pulls and free spools normally. but when I hook up the cable to a few branches (maybe only a few hundred pounds total) and wind in some of the extra cable and back the machine up the wire unwinds slowly from the spool as I drive in reverse with the atv. What is wrong with the thing? shouldnt the spool lock in place when I flip it from freespool(unlock) to "lock". I have pushed the lever as hard as I can and it seems to be in the right position. Is this thing shot? I have not used it much.

I have to drive and "winch in" to keep it from spooling out.

Thanks for any info.

You probably don't have the manual feed released. It is a lever on the end of the winch.

What do you mean by manual feed release? I believe the only lever is on the oposite end of the motor. this alows it to freespool out or engage (lock) for pulling.

When I back up with the atv the wire does not spool out too fast like in free spool mode. It still pulls the log in reverse as i am driving but it feeds wire out slowly.

Not sure what the deal is??????
Thanks.

What I should have said is that the lever may not be all the way into the lock position. If thats not it, there are lots of others with good suggestions and they'll get involved.

Good luck

I had one on my Expedition. The Warn A2000 unfortunately doesn't come with a brake. I believe there was an upgrade kit available that added a brake, changed the rocker and solenoid. Not sure of the rest of the details but email customer service at Warn. You may simply be able to buy the brake and add it. Hope this helps.
