I have the same problem on my 05 800.
Try useing a gas additive, seems to me they get a lot of condinsation in the gas tank.
I have to use it on every tank of gas ,otherwise it starts the sputtering.
I use seafoam, but heet should do the same.

Sorry I didn't get back to you's sooner on the diagnosis of this. A few days ago I went to start it and there was nothing. When I went to put the battery charger on it I noticed the ground connection was loose. Tightened it up and trouble free riding ever since. I am quessing was it got some vibration and shaking at the higher speeds the ground was loose enough to only ground intermittently. Runs like a charm now. One other question though. Has anyone found the oil drain plug extremely tight when they performed their first oil change? I twisted my allen wrench on it and then it slipped. I bought the socket drive style allen bit and I am hoping this is going to work. If the head gets stripped it is going to be ugly.

ya battery ends being loose will do it as it needs that 12 juice to even stay running right. yes they do tighten there bolts and plugs way too tight. thats why the correct size tool is the key for sure and no slippage will occure.

It is metric, use a little valve lapping compound on your allen wrench it will keep it from slipping.

Is this compound just something standard you can find at an autoparts store? Thanks for the tip

Yes you can get the valve grinding compound at any auto parts store , they have either clover or permatex brand's ; just tell the parts guy or gal that you want valve grinding compound for lapping the valves and they will know what you want !........

if you haave the right size you shouldnt have to do any thing else to gett it off and if its a loose fit in the allen head dont use it as it might strip out so wht take a chance w/ the wrong tool. just my .02
