wont idle... PLEASE HELP!

I have a 1999 sportsman 500 that I recently rolled over on top of me, and i have been fixing all the damage and it is pretty much all done. Although I now know of only one problem left.. I cant start the atv unless I have my thumb depressing the gas switch just a little bit. After it is started it runs great unless i take my thumb completly off the switch. It just doesnt want to idle. It almost feels like the thumb throttle is just a little loose. Does anybody know how to tighten it up or have any other suggestions.
Thanks

Did the same on my 06 Hawkeye. The electronic throttle control is partially on. Put some light oil or wd40 on the fitting where the cable goes into the carb and pull the cable up and down on the metal guide. Do it again. That may cure it.
A little clearer. If the cable is sticking where it goes throught the metal on the carb, it causes the cable to push back into the box where the throttle is and that applies the throttle control safety feature.
Good luck.

well if it idled fine before you rolled it, it would not need to be readjusted at the carb w/ the screw. check to make sure theres no damage to the throllte assembly and that there is about 1/8" play in the throttle cable. chances are you did the throttle ***. on the handle bars to throw it off.

great guys thanks for all the help. It works great now!!!! i had just to adjust the throttle cable to get the etc connection inside not to make contact. But one more question.... The four wheel drive light does not come on i tried to see if my four wheel drive worked and it doesnt seem to. (by doing a so called power brake stand) Where should i start.. Is there a certain way the four wheel drive system engages??

How did you adjust it? I did the same thing. let my nephew ride my scrambler 500 and he flipped it and now it won't idle. feels like its in the throttle lever.
