Default 04 Sportsman 600 Battery Light flashing

Hello all, my battery light on my guage started flshing intermitantly while riding it. It hasnt left me stranded nor affected how the atv starts, the battery hasnt seemed weak either. It will just start flashing for a few seconds then turn off. Then a few mins later start again. All the while im not idling or running any accessories. Im traveling at around 20-25mph. The battery is farly new. Could it be the stator. I have it at the Polaris dealer near me and they think it might be but said the part costs $300!! Not including the labor. Is this about right or am i getting ripped off? If I leave it will it eventually die on me? TIA

Do you mean you ATV only will go 20-25? When a stator goes you have no spark and are dead in the water. Even when a stator dies is will run for a short time than usually quits once hot. If you running around fine than get every mile out of your old stator before getting a new one,who knows that could be another 2000 miles!

Thanks for the reply, I can go over 20-25 no problem, I just meant that Im driving way above idle when this happens sometimes, sometimes it does happen when im idling or driving it slow. I wonder what it could be. It doesnt seem to affect the performance of the atv when it flashes. But id hate to be left stranded in the middle of no where if there is something really wrong. I hope the dealership really tests the parts when they take them out to be sure like they told me they would. Well see I guess.

you ned to test it while its doing it to see what the voltage is. even at idle it should be 13 volts and no more then 15 volts at top rpm. maybe the recifier is not controlling the volts like it suppose to be and could start putting too much out which will cause damage as well.

Ok phew, got it back today. Dealer states it was a broken wire at the regulator. Much better news than a bad stator! Kind of wonder how the wire got broken though. Maybe they did it when I had it in for a full service...
