Well my did the same thing!!!!!!............ECM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
Question...........With the quad running without the headlights.........Does it shut-off once the lights are turned on???...........Mine did!!!!
Also do you need to turn the key switch all the way to the off position BEFORE starting again..............................If so ........ECM..........
There are two solid state circuit Breakers in there that provide protection for any overload that is detected!!!!!!!........If the ECM is faulty,or detects a fault, this will shut the quad down for saftey !!!!
My is a 2006 Sp 450 (all one unit).....Not too sure about the ECM on the 2002 models someone will tell you if the electrical breakers, rectifier, module may be separte units............Caper..........
Hope that helps..........

yes only have lights have been on for a while today took 2 minutes , you do not have to turn the key off but after a while the wrench flashes and it will run bad and backfire even with the lights on seem like after the battery is lower voltage
Thanks
