Well got my local ATV Magazine in the mail today and guess what??
As of October 2008 is is against the Law in Quebec Canada to ride two-up on a Quad that is NOT meant to be driven that way!!!

So now all the riders in Quebec,Canada that ride two-up will need to buy new Quads!. He goes on saying about 1/2 of the trail users there ride 2-up and the law will be strictly enforced everywhere!. I think these are things to come and will be happening more and more in the next few years. Here in Ontario,Canada they still let riders in the Fall rally we were on in Sept ride 2-up only on the trails not the roads though!!........Intresting topic!...How does your Province/State handle this?....Is in changing in some places?.........Thanks...Caper........

 

In Minnesota it was illegal to ride 2-up on any atv up until two years ago. When the first true two up atvs came out (Bombardier and cat) Minnesota made it legal to ride two up on any atv, not just those purposely built for two. So now we can ride two up on a single pass atv.

 

thats got to be the stupidest law. what right do they have to tell how many ride your atv. but your right thats the wave of the future for sure. we can ride 2 up here w/ no laws.

 

It says no riders on the seat of most 1 up atvs! Sad that we need laws to regulate dumbies!

 

The second seat I have on my Blue 450 also states "no passengers"

"Seat is for rider to rest on the trail only"......Come on!!!.........They are just posting to cover there A$$...
The 2-up quads do have a longer wheelbase so the second rider's weight is not directly over the rear axle!!..........Know what I think they should do?

On all the two-up Quads they should list for one or two people only......No third person!!!...LOL......Caper............

I agree with you guys. The federal state and local legislators are out of control. I surely don't need a law telling me whether or not I can hike a passenger on my quad when the need arises. This kinda stuff is going on all around us but we only notice what effects us directly. I bet if one was to dig deep enough you would find that the insurance providers in our respective countries are directly responsible for most laws of this nature. Between the insurance lobbyist and the environmental wac'os, we who play outdoors are getting hammered.
Spent my working life in California where the rules and regulations will drive a sane person nuts. Now living in Idaho it's a breath of fresh air. Kinda like California 40 years ago.
