It does not say in the manual that the bike would start or run with dead battery, it only says that it would start with weak battery does anyone know, just wandering?

Kind of defeats the purpose of having a back up pull start if the ATV can,t run without a working battery. Relying on a cheap $45 battery not leaving you stranded is a bad idea. I rode my 2001 SP500 with a dead battery for months and just used the pull start.

What year did Polaris make it that a battery had to work for the ATV to operate normally?

They fixed that problem in the later years(don't know exactly what year though)

I find it hard to believe that with a DEAD battery that it would start. A weak one maybe. If the battery had enough to voltage to run the fuel pump I think it would start. If it didn't have enough voltage, I don't think it would. Ive never tried it on an efi model or seen it yet.

I would do like hoyt said. Buy a new one.

Buggy doesn't need a new battery, I'm sure this is just a question he had whilst reading his owners manual.

Regarding the pull starter, it could be used in the event the starter goes bad, its not always a battery problem that would cause you to use the pull starter.

I've read that the EFI models like to have good voltage, anything less and it starts acting funny. I haven't experienced any of that though.

Everything that I have seen and everyone that I have talked to says that the EFI system will not work properly (or at all) if the battery voltage fall much below 9V. I can tell you from personal experiance that a 2007 X2 500 EFI will not start without a battery - no matter what you do. D**n recoil start will nearly break your arm if you don't catch the cylinder in the right position too.

Sheepdog is right buggy works great its brandnew,i just read in the manual that the recoil would start buggy if battery was weak ,I was wandering if the bike would start and work if the battery was dead, now there so high tech that it makes you wander.

BTW......It was NOT E.F.I. model.........Was 2006 Sportsman 450.........Caper........
