Default 04 600sp drivetrain clicking noise

I was wondering if someone could lead me in the right direction, I have a 04 sp 600 and just recently everytime I reverse it makes a constant clicking noise like a universalor cv joint it only makes the noise when i use reverse, and is in motion is it possible for a universal to do this only in reverse,I should mention that it does this in 2wd as well as 4wd can someone please give me a idea where i should start to look and how to test them for wear, We are suppose to be having a bad winter storm over the next couple days with lots of snow and I have to get it fixed and put the plow on . Thanks in advance

I have an 05 sp 700 that does the same thing. Mine has gotten really loud. I took it in to the dealer who charged me $300 to research the noise and ll they did was change the oil in the transfer case and tell this was 'normal' and that they all do it. Supposedly there is a chain in the transfer case that gets stretched and rattles around. They said it's most common if you use it to plow. I even contacted Polaris industries and was told the same thing. I also have a 02 sp 500 that has no problems. I think it's only with the newer bigger cc models. I don't think my 02 has a chain. After learning this, I have lost my brand loyalty to Polaris!!!

the drive train noise is mostly in the 7 and 800's and havent heard about any 600's the noise only happens when taking off or letting off(hence drive line back lash). yours sounds more like a bad cv. does the clicking sound change when you turn or when going slower and faster? chances are its a cv joint check them over carefully. just my .02

I am familar with the famous drivetrain slap when letting on and off the the gas it has always had that , the noise Iam talking about is a snaping noise like you would get from a front wheel drive car when then you have a bad cv joint( if that helps) it only does it in reverse . It does it when iam backing up straight or turning , slow or fast i have no noise at all when going forwards, it has only 54 hours on it with 412 miles the guy I bought it from used it for fishing trips for a week once a year then let it it sit in his garage till he used it again the following year When i bought it i had to change back bearing because they were almost non exsistant from water and mud sitting in them I almost forgot the noise doesnt change that I can tell when going slow or fast but i really havnt tried going to to fast in reverse:-)

you may want to check all of you cv boots. if any of them have a cut or any kind of an opening you should see the grease comming out, you may have to change out the whole cv axle. i just done this with my 02 sp 700 twin, it was making the same noise, i contacted my dealer and they were gonna charge me $325 but i got one from American CV and it was only $179. maybe this will help...... shea......

One of my Sportsman 500s does the same thing. I thought for sure it was a CV so i took the axles out and the CVs are nice ans smooth and seem well lubed. Both boots are also in great shape. It drives me nuts, I wish I could find the problem. Mine does it while going very slow or pushing it you can hear "pop, pop, pop".
