I like my xplorer 400. But what your option?

Dont look for anything new that will be better than your 400.

New doesnt mean better

What I mean is all the bells and whistels that are on the newer models dont make them better.Granted they ride smoother but they have more moving parts to wear out.Plus even the 800 cant perform to a tuned and dialed in 400 2stroke(dont try to say they can I have seen it).If you plan on keeping a machine go for a prooven 400 or 500 and mod it to what you need.......yes I ride a old Harley too(same one for over 20 yrd)

I hope that they figure out the heat issue with the pipes. Sucks to around 9 grand for a wheeler and after a couple of hundred miles the plastic and the seat melts!!! Mine just started melting not to long ago, but a RZR might be in the near future for me. I have rheumatoid arthritis at age 35 and it sucks, I have a hard time steering the 700 and after riding at deer camp for 4 or 5 days straight, my wrists absolutely kill me. Power steering might make life a little easier, I would have to try and see though.

Merry Christmas All and have a safe New Year, beers to you!

polaris released the 2008 RZRs in late spring 2007, so maybe they are getting ready for the 2009 early also. They probably are making a few changes to the RZRs. Hoping for some cool changes in the sportsman department

I'd like to see power steering and an A arm front suspension on the Sportsman. A real 800 (no blatant lying about displacement as with their 760cc 800) with EFI. I wouldn't be disappointed if they stepped up to 900 or 1000cc engines either.

Strengthening the axles an such would be nice. Doing something with the hideous styling on the Sportsman would be welcome but I can live with the current butt ugly melted rubbermaid trashcan look if it performs well.

Oh and a selectable differential in the rear like the X2s on all models would be sweet.

Just my 2 cents, but I think we're going to see all quad manufacturers stepping up to a "premium" (or in Polaris' case, Deluxe) model. Like everyone is hinting, power steering, multiple selectable drive modes, really nice wheels and tires, much larger engine all in one package. Like auto manufactures, I think we'll be seeing a top of the line model from everyone pretty soon. I think that the ATV aftermarket business is so large that the manufacturers are recoginizing that they are missing out on a potential goldmine. If someone is paying $8500 for a new quad and another $2 - $10K for accessories, that same someone probably won't mind paying $10 - 12 large for a "fully loaded" bike.

I personally wouldnt mind having power steering. the main things that polaris needs to do is:

1. work on their customer service/relations
2. get rid of all the excess noises and rattles (man i hate rattles)
3. keep building quality atv's
4. fuel consumption on the 800

other than that i personaly like my 800H.O. so far and think it is quite powerful for what it is. i dont mind that it is only a 760cc machine. Polaris needs to find a way to keep the frame/bike as strong as it is but shed 100-150LBS in weight. that would wake up the 800.

in 09 or 10 they will release a sportsman that will dominate my new 08 and ill probably be wanting it. just like when i bought my 06 silverado, they completely redesigned the 07's. thats life.

i just dont want anymore damn payments.

Get rid of all the rattles would be great!!!!! Its a shame to buy a new atv and have to take it apart to seal tool box and get the noise out of it. All sportsmans need a 6 gal gas tank...period!!!!
