I'm just making this post to inform owners of 98 sp500 wanting to by-pass the over-ride button. In all the threads I've read they refered to the wires being grey/orange and grey/white. On my 98 sp500 the wires are grey/white, green and a pinkish purple. I used the grey/white as the grey/orange. The green as the grey/white. The purple wires they talked about not being hooked up WERE hooked up on my bike. The purple/white or solid purple wire is the wire I believed I unhooked. I didn't have to splice or anything on my bike, all I had to do was unhook the wires where they went into blocks. The red/white wire they talked about that would be just hanging was also hooked up to my FACTORY 12v acc. plug. I did have to use a splice connector, not a butt-connector to hook the grey/white to the red/white. I hope this is a help to someone and if there are any questions regarding this I am willing to help or take pics of my job on my bike. I hope I have correctly written this as I am trying to remember from memory.

 

does the awd drive still work in reverse w/ it unhooked?

 

My gear selector switch went bad so I unhooked the black wire to the rev limiter box. That worked fine, made engine run great but had no 4x4 PERIOD! I read many threads about how to by-pass the over-ride switch but my wires didn't match any that was talked about in the threads. I just took a chance and tried unhooking sum wires and stuff and it seems that what I did makes everything work like a charm. I hope I answered you question stendori.

 

hey as long as it worked for ya and you have the awd thats all that matters. onthe newer bikes w/ the diag speedo you just unhook it to have it work so its good to have the old style for sure.

 

My riding involves alot of 4x4 so I definately needed it. My riding is just hunting related but sometimes the deer are in muddy fields or have to pull them from creek banks etc etc. I appreciate the threads on here the site is great. I also pulled info from atvfrontier.com
