Offset in wheels/rims
#2
i dont how to explain what it means technically but I put on alum wheels that had a wider offset than stock and it made my quad feel ALOT more stable - doesnt feel as tippy with faster turning. the only bad part is that it is wider and harder to get thru some of the tight trees. To me, stability is more important than squeezing thru trees
i like the way they ride

The first number is the amount of inches that the wheel is offset toward the inside of the bike from where the rim mounts to the hub. The second number is the measurement in offset toward the outside. Put the two numbers together and you have the rim width.
So, if you compare a 5" IN and 2" OUT rim, it will be the same width as the 4-3, but the overall stance of the ATV will be two inches shorter because the 5-2 sticks out one inch less on each side than the 4-3.
I don't know what the stock offset is for a 98 SP500, but a wider stance generally will result in a more stable ride.
The ITP rims on my 800 have less offset to the inside so the wheel track (stance) is wider overall.
