Your buddy may be referring to the o ring under the didpstick. It gets gibbled some times. Don't neglect the screen though, as the magnetic plug doesn't pick up aluminum filings and thats probably the biggest contaminent in the new engines.

 

the screen openings are way to big to pick up any shavings - it would only do chunks and at that point i bet it would be too damn late

im not bothering with the screen again
