Default New Sportsman purchase

Having had an old TRX400 around the farm for 10 plus years I am looking at some new Polaris models. My local dealer has a number of 07 models at some pretty nice prices, close to $1000 less than the 08's. Basically I am looking at a 500 Deluxe and a 700STD. Esentially he will add the winch, alum rims, lights and rear rack extension to the 700 for $800 over the cost of the 500 Deluxe. The 500 is most likely enough power, but after riding them both I'm not a big fan of the active decent control, plus $800 isn't a bank breaker. On the other hand the power of the 500 seems smoother than the 700. Just looking for some opinions as I'm really torn which way to go.

I guess the other question is what would I use a wich for since if I ever got stuck I wouldn't be near anything I could latch onto to winch out? Plus I can't see either of these getting stuck doing what we will do with them.

What I found, if you get stuck in AWD you will need the winch to get out ... as the polaris sportman series has alot of weight behind it.

depending on where you ride i guess you may not need a winch, but what if you go out to someone elses property or go to a park. then your riding enviroment may change. i have gotten my money back out of my winch three times fold. where we ride i wouldn't even attempt without a winch. everyone i ride with has a winch, and atleast one will get used on every trip.

You may want to keep looking. I found my 2007 800 for $6300 new. I know it was a heck of a deal, but the dealer still has 2 more (as of last Wednesday) both green/black. Not sure if you could save some cash by traveling to get yours.

700 EFI $6150
500 DLX $6200

Of course you have to add winch, wheels etc to get the 700 the same a s a DLX. These are the best prices I have found in Southern IL anywhere. I was a bit miffed as the dealer was $200 cheaper before the end of the year, but has actually raised prices $200 since 1/1. He said it was a Polaris rebate that ended . Seems a bit fishy to me.

The base price looks to be about where I was at. I did see one '07 700 std for $5999, but I didn't like the color... I know, I'm picky.

Breese is about $500 to $750 higher on every unit and he doesn't have a huge 07 inventory left.
